Big thanks to RGD for bringing me on board to do a workshop during DesignThinkers 2025 in Vancouver last week. My workshop titled: Craft Your Signature Icon: Define your visual identity. A fun 45 min. workshop that I had immense pleasure and fun sharing my knowledge and experience being in the creative profession for over 2 decades. For those who missed it, I got photos that my student from Capilano University’s IDEA School of Design, Mesh.
Great designers don’t just create; they leave a mark.
The most recognizable artists, like KAWS with his double X, Murakami with his flower faces and Felipe Pantone with his gradients, use recurring motifs to build a distinct identity. Designers can learn from this approach to develop a personal design signature that makes their work instantly recognizable. Carson has made bunnies his signature by subtly weaving them into his designs. Now, it’s your turn. Through guided exercises and iteration, you will explore how to think like an artist and create a unique visual element that strengthens your creative identity.
