Through strange times our creative industry persists.

We’re happy to be invited to be part of this fun series by The advertising & Design Club of Canada called the #ADCChomeoffice.

The series is set to explore the current office spaces designers are working and creating from. Here’s ours. We live in a 5 level split townhome built in the 70’s in the Westend of Vancouver. On the 4th level, we have our home studio where we’re working from now. The space lets in loads of light thanks to all the skylights and windows we have. For most meetings and video calls, we do it on our patio to avoid the kid screams and banshee crying sounds from our 10-month-old. We sometimes use the dining table to lay all our work down for more tactile work. As nice it is working from home, we can’t wait to get back into the studio when this pandemic blows over. Go check out all the other spaces featured on the ADCC IG feed.

Our home office. An open concept townhome built in the 70s. We have lots of skylights and lets in loads of light which is nice but the glare on our screens can sometimes be a problem.
Our rooftop patio has been a great place of refuge for virtual video meetings as our kids can be quite disruptive. And we try our best to work outside as much as possible. Vitamin D!
Our second desk. Denise’s workspace is smaller as she’s mostly responsible for admin and finance work.
Our beloved Herman Miller Nelson Swag desk has served us so well for the past 9 years.
One of our favourite art pieces in our home. A limited print titled ‘Masquerade’ by James Jean.
Released through MAEKAN back in 2016.
Our custom art bike for adidas Originals fixie from a project back in 2010 now is one of our centre art pieces in our home. It sits in front of ‘Chaos’ 28″ x 40″ that I painted back in 2015 in my old studio at 1000 Parker. Both of these pieces sit by our home’s front entrance.
Looking up to our feature piece from the front entrance. Spot the Jean Julien’s IKEA limited art print. ;)
Denise likes to change up her scenery by working in living room. This large dining table has been our go-to spot for bigger illustrations or laying down all our design work.
Denise pretending to be hard at work. ;)
Hidden gems. Our micro Benz G-Wagon hides behind our design annuals.

Meet Quinn Ting.

We’re thrilled for the safe arrival of our latest Ting Tribe member, Quinn. He arrived over a week ago weighing 7 lb. and 10 ounces at the most amazing hospital in the world, B.C. Women’s Hosptial in Vancouver! At only days old, he’s already full of character. He makes hard grunts whenever he poops. Who does that? Quinn. Our hearts are full and we’re so excited to have him part of our family. We love you so much Quinn!

This shot was taken on the Google Pixel 2 XL (This is not a Google-sponsored post) and illustrated on Procreate.

Blade running with my Nikon in Wan Chai, Hong Kong.

Had a free night to walk explore and walk around Wan Chai district in Hong Kong after a nice meal at Osteria Marzia (thanks for the dinner Pak!) and captured these pics with my Nikon D600 and vintage Nikkor glass (50mm F1.4 non-ai). Without a tripod, I used hand rails and any flat solid surface I could find for these 8-15 sec. long exposures. I swear, I can spend months here just shooting in HK. What a beautiful and vibrant city.

Peeking over peaks on Hong Kong island.

Sometimes I pinch myself because I still can’t believe this is my temporary office view in Hong Kong. Caught today’s magic hour (with my trusty old Nikon D600 and Nikkor 50mm F1.8) as I was catching up with emails. Been working and living here since Jan 7th and it seems like there’s no end to exploring new things on this tiny Hong Kong island. We’ll be meeting the good folks at Ogilvy & Mather this Thursday.

There’s almost always something beautiful to see if you look close enough. Just look around.

Title: ‘Road Chill’
Size: 2987px X 3539px @ 72dpi
Medium: Digital. Google Pixel 2 XL + Procreate.

We’ve been back in Hong Kong for 3 weeks now and we still haven’t had time to do a proper photo walk but no matter where we go, or how mundane it might be, there’s almost always something beautiful to see if you look close enough. This photo was taken on the whim with our Google Pixel 2 XL with no filter. Love the colours and how the light is passing through the light plastic. As it drifted down on to the street, it made us think of that scene in the movie, American Beauty (Whoa. That movie was 20 years ago!) and this old French film ‘The Red Balloon‘ (shot in 1956! One of our absolute favourite) We call this piece ‘Road Chill‘.

And no, this is not a sponsored post from Google. No sir.

Excited to be back in Hong Kong to explore and connect.

Written by . Filed under Drawings, Snaps, Blogging. Comments Off on Excited to be back in Hong Kong to explore and connect..

We’re excited to be back again in Hong Kong. We’ve been back for over a week now and have finally settled in and beat our jet lag. We’re here until Feb 27th and really looking forward to reconnecting with our contacts at ad agencies and design firms like Pill and Pillow. If you’d like to reach out and connect with us while we’re here, our local number is 6689 3640 for Carson and 5663 7828 for Denise.

For all image maker nerds reading this, the illustration was shot last night on our Nikon D600 and Nikkor 50mm F1.8. Shot at F7.1 ISO 640 with an exposure time of 2.5 secs. We brought minimal gear this time with only two 50mm. One being F1.4 Non-ai and F1.8. The monster bunny was illustrated on the iPad Pro’s Procreate app.

For all your other project inquiries while we’re away, or if you have any studio needs, feel free to hit up our Studio Manager extraordinaire Aiken. Her email is aiken at chairmanting.com She’s holding the fort down in Vancouver. Studio hours are Mon-Friday 10am – 6pm. However, she will also be away from Jan 28-Feb 12th to vacation in Shanghai.
