We were lucky enough to have had Andrew Latreille fly into Salt Spring Island from Vancouver every other day to document our process. Here are a few shots we got from Andrew. Thank you for making us look so good!

Meet Quinn Ting.

We’re thrilled for the safe arrival of our latest Ting Tribe member, Quinn. He arrived over a week ago weighing 7 lb. and 10 ounces at the most amazing hospital in the world, B.C. Women’s Hosptial in Vancouver! At only days old, he’s already full of character. He makes hard grunts whenever he poops. Who does that? Quinn. Our hearts are full and we’re so excited to have him part of our family. We love you so much Quinn!

This shot was taken on the Google Pixel 2 XL (This is not a Google-sponsored post) and illustrated on Procreate.

Blade running with my Nikon in Wan Chai, Hong Kong.

Had a free night to walk explore and walk around Wan Chai district in Hong Kong after a nice meal at Osteria Marzia (thanks for the dinner Pak!) and captured these pics with my Nikon D600 and vintage Nikkor glass (50mm F1.4 non-ai). Without a tripod, I used hand rails and any flat solid surface I could find for these 8-15 sec. long exposures. I swear, I can spend months here just shooting in HK. What a beautiful and vibrant city.

Peeking over peaks on Hong Kong island.

Sometimes I pinch myself because I still can’t believe this is my temporary office view in Hong Kong. Caught today’s magic hour (with my trusty old Nikon D600 and Nikkor 50mm F1.8) as I was catching up with emails. Been working and living here since Jan 7th and it seems like there’s no end to exploring new things on this tiny Hong Kong island. We’ll be meeting the good folks at Ogilvy & Mather this Thursday.

There’s almost always something beautiful to see if you look close enough. Just look around.

Title: ‘Road Chill’
Size: 2987px X 3539px @ 72dpi
Medium: Digital. Google Pixel 2 XL + Procreate.

We’ve been back in Hong Kong for 3 weeks now and we still haven’t had time to do a proper photo walk but no matter where we go, or how mundane it might be, there’s almost always something beautiful to see if you look close enough. This photo was taken on the whim with our Google Pixel 2 XL with no filter. Love the colours and how the light is passing through the light plastic. As it drifted down on to the street, it made us think of that scene in the movie, American Beauty (Whoa. That movie was 20 years ago!) and this old French film ‘The Red Balloon‘ (shot in 1956! One of our absolute favourite) We call this piece ‘Road Chill‘.

And no, this is not a sponsored post from Google. No sir.

Excited to be back in Hong Kong to explore and connect.

We’re excited to be back again in Hong Kong. We’ve been back for over a week now and have finally settled in and beat our jet lag. We’re here until Feb 27th and really looking forward to reconnecting with our contacts at ad agencies and design firms like Pill and Pillow. If you’d like to reach out and connect with us while we’re here, our local number is 6689 3640 for Carson and 5663 7828 for Denise.

For all image maker nerds reading this, the illustration was shot last night on our Nikon D600 and Nikkor 50mm F1.8. Shot at F7.1 ISO 640 with an exposure time of 2.5 secs. We brought minimal gear this time with only two 50mm. One being F1.4 Non-ai and F1.8. The monster bunny was illustrated on the iPad Pro’s Procreate app.

For all your other project inquiries while we’re away, or if you have any studio needs, feel free to hit up our Studio Manager extraordinaire Aiken. Her email is aiken at chairmanting.com She’s holding the fort down in Vancouver. Studio hours are Mon-Friday 10am – 6pm. However, she will also be away from Jan 28-Feb 12th to vacation in Shanghai.

Diving into this week head first from 1000 ft.

It’s a sink or swim mentality but the past 2 months have been quite intense. Projects have been piling in non-stop which is a good thing but also a little nerve-racking. Fortunately, we’ve been getting lots of help at the studio from our amazing intern Aiken Lao from UBC’s Sauder School of Business. She’s one of those rare hybrids that possess the ability to illustrate, design, shoot and write. For the past 2-3 months, Aiken’s been an amazing asset at the studio helping out Hubert Kang, Annie Chen and us! Keep checking this space. Lots of new projects in the works that we’ll eventually share. We promise! ;)
