RDG DesignThinkers 2018 Vancouver day 1 shot by Rick Etkin

I seriously had an amazing time speaking at this years RGD‘s ‘Speak The Truth’ design conference here in Vancouver. It is such an honour to be invited to such a fun and inspiring event! It was honestly very difficult to prep for this talk as our project workloads have ramped up significantly recently at the studio.

Prepping for this talk meant sneaking away from a kid’s birthday party to build the presentation slides, working weekends, early mornings, late nights and blah blah blah…but in the end, it was totally worth the time. I also need to thank my amazing design intern, Aiken Lao for her help on research and helping me fine tune my topic.

It was also one of the best conferences I’ve been to. I was so incredibly moved and inspired by talks done by giants like Aaron Draplin and then discovering the ultra-talented designer and illustrator, Gemma O’Brien from Australia. Both of those talks truly inspired me to rethink my work and processes. Once the craziness settles down at the studio, I am motivated to produce a new body of personal work. It’ll be a lot of tinkering and experimenting.

It was also so great to see so many familiar faces such as my old boss, Ian Grais, co-founder, partner and CD at Rethink, Brandon Thomas, Allison Chambers, Mustaali Raj, Philip Jarmain, Rick Etkin and much more. Also so great to meet so many new faces. And lastly, big shout out to my rock, Denise for being there to cheer me on with our little bean, Audrey (youngest design delegate!). Read More »

UNIQLO Doraemon x Murakami collection

Written by . Filed under Blogging. Tagged , , , , , . Comments Off on UNIQLO Doraemon x Murakami collection.

I’m super humbled and honoured to be invited to partner up with UNIQLO Canada to talk about my creative journey and personal outlook on the work I do as part of the #UT2018 #Lifewear campaign. I begin writing this post as my team and I are finishing a 100′ x 19′ monster mural in Vancouver.

My ex-creative director used to say KG on work that’s not quite there yet. KG stands for ‘Keep Going’, and this mentality has been ingrained in my head ever since. Whether it’s painting a 100′ mural or hundred layer Photoshop file, my life as a creative professional has always been about pushing boundaries and trying new things. It’s all about going the extra 100 mile. Knowing the superpowers of Doraemon and his crazy ability to pull anything out of his pouch is what creative professionals are expected to do these days, and I could only imagine how amazing it would be to possess that power.

Get your super powered Uniqlo Doraemon x Murakami collection in-store today, Thursday May 24th!

Big thanks to our studio mate Hubert Kang for diffusing the harsh afternoon sun rays while we were setting up in front of the studio. Also big thanks to our amazing design intern, Aiken lao for setting up the shot, doing shot selects and even some minor retouching! All shot on my Google Pixel 2 phone. Here’s a funny BTS shot by Annie Chen. Read More »

Pinch Me If You Can was commissioned by the False Creek Fishing Authority to help celebrate and kick off this year’s Spot Prawn Festival. We honestly wouldn’t have been able to pull this off if it wasn’t for the fearless helpers we had.

We’d like to take this opportunity to give a huge shout out to the following people, Kenji, founder and creative director at Gamomo Creative lab, Efrain Perez, Aiken Lao, Shay Klassens, VNSTNO, Alex Beim, Hubert Kang, Annie Chen, Pierre Dalphond and everyone at the False Creek Fishing Authority who always greeted us with smiles and kindesss.
