Back on stage for Creative Pulse: Stop Creating One Thing at a Time.

Discover how Carson Ting uses creative systems to make more ambitious work — without simply working harder.

Last month, I was invited back on stage for Creative Pulse. After an intense summer packed with FIFA projects and constant travel, from Dallas and New York to Malaysia, Hong Kong, Shenzhen, and Seoul, I struggled to settle on a compelling topic for my talk. But that all changed during a project in Hong Kong.

It dawned on me that over the years, I had developed a distinct production method that allows me to tackle multiple projects at once: a system I call “LEGO bricks.” Essentially, I build modular illustration elements, the “bricks” that I can remix, rebuild, and recycle into entirely new artwork. Not every project uses this system, but it allows my team and me to execute rapidly and, more importantly, simultaneously. Sometimes I wonder whether I actually had this foresight or if it was pure serendipity that I named my company Chairman Ting Industries Inc. The word “Industries” certainly feels fitting given the sheer volume of work coming out of the studio, from sculptures and animations to murals, toys, and beyond.

A big thank-you to Ami Sanyal and the Creative Pulse team for having me back. It was a blast sharing my creative process and journey as an independent artist and studio owner. What made the event even more special was leading a collaborative art project with the audience. We handed out paper pads and black Sharpies, inviting everyone to contribute a single visual motif. Whether a handwritten word, a character, a symbol, or a simple doodle. Afterwards, I brought all the artwork back to the studio, scanned and vectorized every piece, and assembled them into one cohesive design. That artwork is now featured on a tote bag produced and sold online by Make, with 100% of proceeds going directly to Lightwell Learning (formerly LDS). Also a big shout out to the team at MAKE for making all of this possible through their production and retail capabilities.
