Like many of you, the recent events that have unfolded in the U.S. and Canada have been truly incomprehensible. It’s hard to articulate the anger and frustration seeing how racism is still a large part of our lives in this day and age. As a first-generation Chinese Canadian (born and raised) I have experienced my fair share of racism as a kid but nothing in comparison to what Black people experience. I can only imagine their struggles and because of this, I’ve been inspired to illustrate this piece called ‘United Colours of Humanity’ to capture the spirit of our global community rising up against racism, specifically, about anti-Black racism and police brutality.
Here’s a link put together by Daily Hive that lists all Black-owned businesses and mutual aid funds you can support in Vancouver. We will continue to show our support in every way we can. FYI, there will be an anti-racism protest happening at Canada Place today at 4pm in Vancouver.
Also, here’s a cool link to support black designers that I found through my old partner in crime, Keri Zierler called Blacks Who Design: https://blackswho.design/
Support Black-Owned Businesses. Great resource list here.
